The Importance of Orthopedic Supports in Injury Rehabilitation
Proper orthopedic support is crucial in facilitating effective rehabilitation and preventing further injury. These devices provide stability, reduce pain, and promote healing by immobilizing the affected area and controlling swelling.
Common Injuries Requiring Orthopedic Supports
Ankle Sprains: Ligament injuries caused by overstretching or tearing.
Fractures: Breaks in bones that necessitate immobilization.
Tendonitis: Inflammation of tendons due to overuse or injury.
Benefits of Using Aircast Supports
Aircast products offer several advantages:
Enhanced Stability: Semi-rigid shells provide firm support.
Comfortable Fit: Anatomical design ensures user comfort.
How to Choose the Right Aircast Support
Selecting the appropriate Aircast support depends on the specific injury, required support level, and individual preferences.
Factors to Consider
Type of Injury: Match the support to the injury (e.g., ankle sprain vs. fracture).
Activity Level: Consider daily activities and mobility requirements.
Fit and Comfort: Ensure proper sizing for optimal effectiveness.
Sizing and Fit Guidelines
Proper sizing is essential for effective support and comfort. Refer to Aircast’s sizing charts and consult with a healthcare professional to determine the correct size.

I love this ankle support! Of the five different ankle supports I’ve tried this is my favorite. With partial paralysis in one leg and foot I had trouble finding a support brace that would keep my ankle from rolling but still allow me to raise my foot up. A molded cast type brace, an Arizona Brace, which was made for me but it was too restrictive.

This Aircast A60 Ankle Support Brace is much more comfortable than the Bauerfeind Malleoloc, which worked for me but was difficult for me to put on ( there are rods in my spine so I don’t bend much). The Aircast A60 goes on like a sock (albeit it does require a bit more tugging, especially at first) and I can fasten the Velcro straps myself. Such wonderful independence to not need help!
The other ankle supports I’ve tried are; a simple black elastic Velcro attached ace bandage sort of thing, Aircast Air Stirrup Universe, and a Mueller Lite Ankle Brace. These just let my ankle slip around in them or didn’t offer enough rigidity. A McDavid Ankle Brace with strap which laced up did not give enough support either. The Bauerfeind Malleloc held my ankle very rigid but was bulkier and impossible for me to put on by myself.
Even though one of the reviews for the Aircast A60 said it wears out quickly I figure I can buy five of them for the cost of one Bauerfeind Malleloc. Plus the Aircast A60 is much more comfortable and easier to put on.
The first few times you put the Aircast A60 on it is tight and a little difficult, plus the Velcro is VERY aggressive and someone else had to help me get out of it the first time. But it soon ‘works in’ and comes on and off without too much effort. I’m very grateful to have found this Aircast A60 solution to my particular needs.
I’m glad I researched and bought the most lightweight boot I could. I ended up being non-weight-bearing and on crutches for eight+ weeks. This was my boot. While I had a love-hate relationship, I do recommend this one.
I’m glad I researched and bought the most lightweight boot I could. I ended up being non-weight-bearing and on crutches for eight+ weeks. This was my boot. While I had a love-hate relationship, I do recommend this one.
Pros: It’s lightweight and you can adjust this and make it comfortable for you. This is helpful as swelling changes, healing/discomfort change. I used to deflate a bit at night, for example. It’s easy to adjust and there are online videos of Physical Therapist showing how to put it on.
It’s lightweight too. Considerably lighter than the black one that everyone gets. But it’s more expensive. It was worth the extra cost for me. And since the hospital was going to charge me $1200 for the black boot I felt it was ok to splurge a bit on my broken ankle.
Cons: they use some ridiculously cheap & tiny Velcro to secure the top pad in the boot. Almost immediately, I accidentally pulled it the pad out when adjusting. I could still tuck the pad in, but it never stuck again and would work its way out. That was an annoyance considering the price. I could’ve solved it with some little Velcro stickers myself, but never did.
If you’re going to be mobilized for a while, the Aircast is a smart way to go. You have stability, comfort, it breathes well, and looks great with extra wide leg jeans 😉
When I first received this several days ago and put it on, I was screaming inside, disappointed and frustrated because I had been expecting it to be as comfortable as the Aircast without the thumb spica for my right wrist I had used.
When I first received this several days ago and put it on, I was screaming inside, disappointed and frustrated because I had been expecting it to be as comfortable as the Aircast without the thumb spica for my right wrist I had used. This version was extremely uncomfortable when I first put it on, around the thumb where the metal was. However I did discover that the metal stay keeping the thumb in place can be removed (as can the volar stay on the palm side of the splint) and you can then bend it pretty easily and make it comfortable. I suppose one might need help with this if they already have pain in their wrist, but it is done easily enough, so I don’t imagine it would be a big deal to get help with this task. It isn’t made so that the thumb part is going to fit most people right out of the package, so I expect that this is a necessary step for most people if they want to be able to wear this. I actually bought another wrist brace immediately after putting this on and before discovering that I could mold it to fit comfortably, and while I found the other brace to be comfortable and pretty supportive, the Aircast one is more supportive than any I’ve ever used (aside from custom made splints, which have their own pros and cons) and I think I prefer the Aircast now. I don’t think I really need the thumb spica and I did manage to find the size Aircast I need (large) for my left wrist without the thumb spica on a different website, as it wasn’t available on Amazon yesterday when I decided I wanted the regular one and I’m hoping it will arrive quickly enough. But this one will work until then and I encourage everyone to adjust the thumb part or it will feel very uncomfortable. I couldn’t have kept wearing it without adjusting it, but I’m even wearing it overnight now.
